Dundee Councillor says  - don’t charge rent for these houses

Dundee Councillor Jimmy Black says the council houses in the Maxwelltown area of Dundee are so bad that the Council should stop charging rent on them. “Some of these houses have been waiting for demolition for four years. They’re cold and damp, and the walkways are over grown with weeds, covered in graffiti and sometimes used by injecting drug users. There really is no justification for charging rent for these houses - the service tenants are getting simply isn’t value for money.”

Councillor Black stressed that he was not encouraging non-payment of rent. His proposal was resisted by Housing Convener George Regan. (25/09/2007)
